The weekend is here, so it’s time for another one of my “Landscape Stories”: a photograph accompanied by a creative narrative. I took this photo standing in the center of Deception Pass Bridge (WA, USA), high above the channel where tidal forces push massive quantities of water through a narrow gap.
I especially like the tension that’s evoked by contrasting a quiet moment in soft pastel light with the power that’s evident in the churning water. But on a deeper level, this work is about unfulfilled desire, where the turbulent waters hiding under the surface represent one’s internal emotional state.
SEA ROADS
As purples and blues emerge in the pre-dawn light
I watch the water rushing, churning on its race to the sea
I, too, feel the ocean's draw
It pulls my thoughts and sight toward absolute West
Where an infinitude of journeys beckon
