As Christmas nears, I wanted to share a photo of my favorite Christmas ornament. It’s a drum, symbolizing the story of the drummer boy who had no gift to give baby Jesus except a song played on his drum.
My grandmother likely got this ornament when my mother was young. When my grandmother died, the drum passed to my mother. Each year when I’d find the drum on the Christmas tree, I’d think of my grandmother.
Now my mother doesn’t have much time left; the ornament is with me. When I place it on the tree, I see a warm connection through three generations.
You don’t have to be Christian to want to light the darkness, to do and to be better. In fact, my wife and children are of a different faith. They don’t celebrate Christmas, but I still tell the story of this drum. So in the darkest days, celebrate the light in your own way. Help the world be a better place. Honor your family, friends, and the planet.
Make life good.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanza, and more. 🎄
