Farcaster

I think we are finally moving away from the era of social media and into an era of online micro-communities. More intentional, less chaos. Smaller, but more valuable. More boundaries, more containment.

This is why I’m not so bullish on farcaster onboarding any and everybody, trying to become the next global town square feels like fighting the last war.

What do ya think of Otti’s take here?

I often struggle with the notion of how many different folks modern social allows us to interact with across a broad spectrum of interests.  

One result for me personally is that I have very surface level online “friendships” - also in part cause I choose not to share too much about family life - which is such a central focus of my life - creates a kinda weird separation of silos - continue to enjoy Farcaster cause it allows different interests to be engaged.

Growing veggies for the fine folks of Southeastern Massachusetts, w/ a focus on nutrient quality. Always interested in the evolution of digital payments.  🎩

Much like real life o don’t see how to find the time needed to invest or maintain deeper relationships 

I think of Farcaster kinda like a local bar, where you can drop in and always find a mate to have a conversation- a bit about the current events, or sports or whatever.

Do you see yourself increasing the depth of online friendships in the future? re:surface friendships

If farcaster is to scale, it’s inevitable and Merkle has always been vocal about growth. 

It’s nice to feel nostalgic but it’s a business they’re out to make profits, it’ll bring in a lot of different people but that’s why you can curate your feed 

I’m okay with either.
