Early Evening session
Preharvesting culinary herbs ahead of possible showers in the AM
Thyme, Sage, & Summer Savory pictured.
Reckon transplanting session up next.
July evening sessions are a rotation of 5 activities:
harvesting - only if we are front running weather,
transplanting or seeding - past peak planting so only 1-2x a week at most,
tying tomatoes and “crop care”,
elec fence maintenance - weed wacking / mowing, setting up if we have new acreage planted
and tractor work
Not including daily “chores” like closing the farmstand, turning on fences, closing fieldhouses, checking on gh transplsnts, rabbit control, etc etc.
Of these 5 crop care is my favorite evening activity as we get to engage with crops mid cycle.
Few other bonus activities are added as necc - mostly pest mgmt related.
If days feature heat the 6-10 shift in the evening is often prized for pleasant working conditions.
Unmatched for best time for working in the summer. 4 replies
