Metaplanet's CEO Simon Gerovich says they're checking if the IRS will label them a PFIC. If 75% of their income or 50% of assets are passive, they'll qualify. They argue most goodwill is active, but the IRS may disagree by 2025. They're working with advisors to clarify rules for US shareholders, including QEF election options. More guidance coming soon.
