One thing I didn't appreciate until recently is that a large majority of the Portuguese in Toronto (70%?) are of Azorean descent, particularly from the island of São Miguel. This place.

The Monte Palace Hotel on São Miguel island opened in April 1989 and was the first five-star hotel in the Azores. It closed just 18 months later, and this is what it looks like today.
