I don’t remember when exactly, 2020, 2021? But everyone was annoyed because Uniswap was this massively successful company (due to our trading ofc) and they would not do an airdrop or give back anything to anyone in a time when everyone was doing airdrops and people were printing money hand over fist

So sushiswap comes along and basically vampire attacked uniswap - suddenly all these major Uniswap LPs were defecting because you could farm the $sushi token by providing liquidity (SBF participated iirc)

They would probably claim otherwise but they were in real danger from a community standing POV and you could tell they were getting pissed because people were defecting and hating on them for being greedy

Eventually they caved and announced that they would drop the $uni token, basically their hand was forced because what is the reasoning that they couldn’t do that for their users?

Funny part is the real draw was that token holders could vote to activate the fee switch which would return some % of swap fees to token holders, so that was the main speculation

But ofc who held the most uni tokens making it impossible to activate the fee swap?
