Honestly, I see memecoins on Base as a double-layer phenomenon — part cultural movement, part speculative frenzy. On the surface, it’s easy to dismiss them as noise, but if you look closer, they’re actually accelerating user onboarding in a way that more "serious" projects often struggle to do.
Base is still young, and memecoins are helping it gain traction. They create viral moments, encourage people to bridge over, and build communities around shared humor and identity. That kind of grassroots activity is hard to manufacture with traditional DeFi or infra projects.
However, the downside is obvious — a lot of these coins are short-lived, driven by hype, and prone to rug pulls. That kind of volatility can undermine trust if it's not balanced out by more sustainable projects being built alongside them.
Personally, I haven’t bought into any memecoins on Base yet. I’m more of a builder and observer than a trader. But I do believe they’re playing a key role in the early growth of the ecosystem 0 reply
