Is decentralized storage a fad?
I don't think so.
Crypto hype around decentralized storage certainly cooled after 2021, but the underlying need hasn't disappeared.
The biggest weakness of decentralized storage ... isn't technology.
It's developer experience.
The decentralization should disappear behind excellent UX.
AWS succeeds because developers can deploy something in minutes.
If decentralized storage requires understanding wallets, tokens, retrieval markets, and network mechanics, mainstream companies won't adopt it.

Many infrastructure technologies take 15–25 years to become mainstream.
People forget:
- cloud computing seemed niche in the mid-2000s
- containers took years to become standard
- Kubernetes looked overcomplicated before it became ubiquitous
- Git was once considered difficult
There's still a time for decentralized storage like Filecoin to win slowly.
