Ever since the big snowstorm in New York City, we’ve been living in an apartment that’s been leaking through the ceiling of two rooms.
This balcony functions as the feeder drain for the entire building, which means all meltwater from two roofs and two additional balconies will eventually flow through it.
We have no idea what’s going to happen to our ceiling when the weather warms up.
This existential dread in our home is very literal representation of the metaphor I imagine a lot of us are feeling about technology right now.
It’s impossible to keep up. The gap between those “in the know” and those who have never dabbled with AI is widening faster than before. Meanwhile the AI just keeps improving itself on its own.
I look up at the cracks in the plaster ceiling. I know how much snow is sitting above us.
Every sunny day, I hold my breath and ask:
“What’s going to happen when it all melts?”
