A notable side effect of building community on my block has been incremental amounts of trust-building and micro-offloading.
For instance we always used to scramble when out of town for the weekend about who would watch our cat.
Now I have 2 neighbors at the ready who invite our cat, Bagel, into their homes for as long as we need.
When we got back from this last weekend away while visiting family out of town, we returned not only to a healthy and happy cat -- but a framed photo of our cat for family to keep.
That's the kind of intangible communal gifting that's only possible through lowkey "narrowcasting" in trusted rooms.
