To Love

To love is to know—
Layers upon layers unraveled as time passes.
Like dwelling in a house, a painted house—
Then you live there long enough to see
The cracked walls and the leaking roof,
Such that you know your way around even when the lights are out.

To love is never to lose the sense of wonder.
To be curious every waking day.
To keep chasing, and keep trying.
To tend the flames—spark, and keep them burning bright.

To love is to consider, adjust, and compromise.
To morph into versions of ourselves
That will offer our partners the best experience of love.

On the best days and the worst,
To love is to choose you—
Every day.
