seeing many people share that they subscribed to Farcaster Pro bc they want to*: 1) reinvest in themselves and the platform 2) support other users — devs, creatives, writers, poasters, artists, etc — through the growing rewards confirms my belief that farcaster is the most prosocial social network. grateful ✨

Browsers ceased to be an at-scale consumer platform independent of distribution after Internet Explorer was released and crushed Netscape. There was a brief moment where Mozilla Firefox (thanks to IE6 stagnation) might have proven a counterfactual, but Google and Apple won the browser market on mobile and then desktop because of distribution. Consumers are fine if the default is good enough. Hard to make it 10x better.

This is why I like & believe in Farcaster the X API pricing killed my project 2 years ago and I had to sell it off (tweets. beauty and @poet_this). can't believe this is still an issue I was straight up hit with a $43k/month bill for the "Enterprise" tier. I was 17 at the time. The situation was insane. everyone building on the API was panicking. I was lucky to get an acquirer but most didn't. same with my discord bot Spacebot before that. the inherent platform risk with these services make it hard to have ambitious goals and dreams. to the point where I don't even think it's a good idea to be building anything on top of the X API right now. its the sad, but very unlikely to change reality.

The fundamental problem to solve for with personal tokens / creator coins / etc. is the psychological effect of a significant price decline. 1. Most people are not equipped to manage a liquid, global, 24/7 traded asset. 2. Current norms are that if someone buys an asset, they expect the person / team / organization behind that asset are incentivized long-term to make that asset more valuable. 3. When there's a significant price decline, many / most creators will be overwhelmed by the hole they now need to dig themselves out of. Layer on a bunch of angry, pseudonymous people screaming at them on the internet. 4. Additionally, what happens when you want to stop creating? Like Outdoor Boys recently did. Contrast to a publicly traded company where the founder retires—the value still continues to accrue. Possible ways to change this 1. Invent a new asset that's time bound. Closer to a prediction market or an option. "I'm speculating on X during period Y." 2. Change norms / culture -- this is super slow.

Twitter is at peaking infofi farming right now, so it's great to have an alternate crypto feed where none of that exists I like Kaito and I think it's done a lot of good, but it's hard to ignore the way it's changed our daily crypto content intake

Latest on Farcaster Pro 1. Launches tomorrow Tuesday May 27 after 1pm Pacific. In-app notification. 2. First 10,000 subscribers will receive an NFT at a later date. It's the same NFT for everyone. One subscription per FID. You must use the Farcaster mobile app to subscribe. USDC or warps—one or the other, no combinations. 3. There are no other benefits to the NFT; it's a benefit of Farcaster Pro. If you end up buying an NFT on the secondary market, there's no secret benefit. 4. If you have any hesitations about Farcaster Pro — $120 annually, only Day 1 feature is a badge and NFT—then *do not* subscribe. There are no refunds. We'd like to add 10K character casts and up to 4 images in the near future, but you should only subscribe tomorrow if you're excited about it. 5. It's one price globally. The goal here is to maximize revenue for the protocol—and 100% of revenue will go to creator and developer rewards. 6. It's optional. No benefit to reach, visibility or rewards. You don't have to subscribe.

Additional info on on Farcaster Pro launch 1. Tuesday May 27 at 1pm Pacific (no earlier, may be a little later) 2. We will have an in-app banner and in-app notification. No push notification. Notifications won’t all happen at the same time. There are 10,000 NFTs, you’ll be fine. :) 3. One $120 subscription per FID. Remember, it’s a subscription that gives you an NFT as one of the benefits, not an NFT that gives you a subscription. No multi year buys. 4. The NFT is from a Farcaster-native artist to be revealed soon! It’s the same NFT for all 10,000, i.e. this is not a pfp type project. NFT will not be immediately available, will be airdropped later. 5. You either pay entirely in 120 USDC or 12,000 warps. We’re only using warps to help people have a reason to spend existing balances. We’re still slowly moving away from using warps. 6. It’s an optional subscription. If you don’t like it, don’t subscribe. It has no impact on your reach, visibility or rewards.
