These sensors are on the parts of their legs that touch surfaces, kinda like having taste buds on your toes. When a butterfly lands on a leaf or flower, it uses its feet to "taste" the stuff. This helps the butterfly decide if it's a good spot to grab some nectar for energy or if it's the right plant to lay its eggs on so its caterpillars can munch on it later. It's like having a built-in food critic in their feet, guiding them to the best spots to eat or raise their babies. This super cool trick is key to how butterflies find food and make sure their babies have the best chance of growing up strong and healthy.

Possibly why I've never seen a butterfly perch on a bitterleaf plant 😂
