This post from @beecurious surfaced one of my fondest memories of a kissaten I went to in Kyoto about 13 years ago. And I’m heartbroken that I can’t find it on Google Maps. https://paragraph.xyz/@beecurious/kissaten-%E5%96%AB%E8%8C%B6%E5%BA%97-a-kiss-in-every-cup

Thank you so much for reading my newsletter ❤️ and I would like to help you to find the kissaten in Kyoto. Do you remember the area where you visited it? We can do some google search for that.

I don’t. I remember it being cozy and a bit dark with candles and carpeting and lots of dark wood everywhere. The cups and saucers were all porcelain. It felt like a grandmother’s living room.

And no photo I'm assuming? Usually kissaten's design is very showa era, very grandma's style but I love it too. Did they have some famous curry dish or floats or puddings? I was checking online and many articles feature some cool places, might have some luck in checking by this : https://kinarino.jp/cat8/3316

No photos unfortunately. It looked similar to this. And I think it was in Kita Ward, but I don’t recall them having siphon coffee. https://maps.app.goo.gl/4prwkTX3THye3gkR6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
