Sometimes I think about, Socrates without Plato would not have Plato. There's certain kinds of people that need the presence of others in order for the best to come out of them - and there are others that pull the best out of those that are out there - that is fascinating

Agreed lots of interdependence. Socrates would likely be successful without Plato though maybe not in the same way. 

As an extreme alternative history, if Socrates was born and raised in a brutal dictatorship where all opinions resulted in immediate death, I’m less optimistic about the success of Socrates.
