30BG OR FC Hehehe This is definitely not my type of post, but I just feel the need to contrast them and see who I would definately pick. Will look at their impact, zeal, hits, riches and more. Let’s go. 1. ZEAL In terms of zeal, who has shown more hunger which can potentially be emulated? Personally, I would go for Davido in this. A quick look at history reveals that Omo Baba Olowo didn’t come from a very encouraging. He may be of rich parentage but that meant his father had the resources to block the path of his son who went against his father’s wishes. David had to toil to fund his music journey and vowed to make it without depending on his father’s wealth. Davido started dropping the hits like ‘Back When’, ‘All of You’, ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ to showcase his dogged drive to cement his place as “better than all of them.” In contrast, we have star Boy from Ojuelegba. Starboy Wizzy who had the full support of Mummy Morayo and never looked back. Starboy who was fortunately headhunted by Banky W and drafted into EME. This does not negate the fact that Wizzy didn’t put in the necessary work. That boy grinded to bring out hits like ‘Wad Up’, ‘Hola at your Boy,’ ‘Pakurumo’ and more. Lesson You can make it out of every ‘ghetto’ if you remain dogged enough to keep going and believe in your talent. 2. BENEVOLENT IMPACT Benevolent impact in this case refers to how much good these superstars have shown through the years. It refers to how generous they are, how many people they are able to build up, how much they are able to give back to the local communities and ecosystem that thrives on their craft. For this aspect, I am definitely going with Baba Imade (Davido). When you mention Davido in the streets, you will find people spring up to testify of his good heart. Recently, he had been a catalyst in the growth of young content creators like Carter Efe, musicians like Shoddy (Nakupenda Remix) and many more. It is often said that Baddest doesn’t need your money. He is like Baddo (Olamide) in the sense that if he loves your music, he will hop on a call with you and make a remix happen. He has done it for Humblesmith, done it for Peruzi, done it for so many more upcoming artists. In contrast, people have alleged that Baba Bolu (Wizzy) loves going through DJ Tunez to try and work with young upcoming artists. They claim it is a way of making sure no flop songs are ever attributed to his impeccable history of personal songs and collabs. Looking at the history of musicians who have been mentored by David and Wiz shows that David has made more impact. Through 30BG, we have experienced Peruzi, Dremo, Idowest, Mayorkun, and more. Even legends like Bright Chimezie have been blessed by David who recognize their work and appreciate them for it. This is not to say that Wiz hasn’t been a benevolent man. Far from it: Wiz has inspired a lot of young musicians through the years like Maleek Berry, Lax, Dj Tunez and more. He still regularly gives back to the streets from time to time by co-signing young superstars like Asake (MMS), Mavo, Tems (Essence) and more. Lesson Do not be a culture vulture. Do not be that person that has gained help from others while growing up and then yanks the ladder away, making sure no one reaches your height. Be a conscious giver as it remains a vibrant way you gain fresh knowledge, stay in touch with your audience, and keep open the portals of inspiration from your source. 3. MORAL IMPACT To be honest, I wouldn’t go for either of the duo in this aspect. First, it is alleged that these two still have constant flirtations and connects with active confraternities. In this big 25, it is alleged that they are still ‘doing cult,’ which portrays a very bad influence on their young fans if it is true. Apart from that, I personally detest the regular snide remarks they keep making at times to each other. It is very tiring, as they use it sometimes to try and gain traction for upcoming projects. They are both within my age bracket (33) and one will expect that they would put away beefs and simply focus on their craft. Such beefs are even still detrimental to the ecosystem as young musicians sometimes think they have to pick sides just to curry the favour of the other. The problem is that picking the 30BG side incites the other fanbase and vice versa. Worse, in a country like Nigeria where violence is regarded as the answer sometimes, picking sides could mean the loss of your life, wealth or more. Lesson There is a time allotted for foolishness. When an elder continues to act like a child, it is necessary we remind them to act accordingly. Will these two listen to the voice of reason and start trying to collaborate more? Only time will tell, but they need to act fast as posterity is still writing its log in her journal. 4. RICHES Who is richer between Davido and Wiz? Who has more financial clout? Hehehe Only a fool engages in this type of discussion. Only a food decides to start monitoring how much a fellow man has in his pockets. Only a jobless idiot decides to ignore the work God gave to him/her and start trying to measure the riches of other humans. I am not a fool. I refuse to be a fool. And I bind and cast the spirit of foolishness from the minds of my readers. Recieve sense in Jesus name! In conclusion, through the decades spanning from the 2010s, the world has been blessed by the artistry of two dynamic young men. Two young mavens and mavericks who have redefined sounds and catapulted themselves into the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) debate in their industry. David and Ayodeji have done what few people have ever done. Through their grit, they have taken the Nigerian flag and made it shine throughout the world. It doesn’t matter if you are in Guyana or Belieze, you will definitely hear songs like ‘IF’ or ‘Ojuelegba’ in their streets and bars. Their music graces the playlists of world leaders. It inspires world champions and has brought them to the hallowed stages where they sing their hearts out. Most importantly, their music, grit and story are a constant reminder that it is possible to become. Despite the colour of one’s skin, accent, height, financial position it is possible to aspire and gain ascendancy on a world stage. David and Ayo have done it and are inspiring a whole generation to keep doing it.
