The UFC is in rough shape. Quickly losing all entertainment value with almost no draws or entertaining champions. Even I hardly watch any cards any more and when I do, I leave so bored of all the decisions and boring fights. Hope a new guard brings something fun to watch eventually.

The problem is the meta changed. It used to be all about KO's and power, which the daegastani style essentially killed. There'll be a time that the daegastani style is overcome, it's just a matter of what can beat it continuously.

I think the fear is that the new Meta won't be coming. It's hard to see what beats the wrestling heavy control style. Sure some fighters will get caught standing still before landing a takedown, but BJJ defense is so good now the wrestlers don't really fear that. Even good TD defense loses fighters decisions because judges tend to score takedown attempts as cage control, so just keep shooting even if you get stuffed and you'll grind out a win.

There will always be a new meta. Teams will be working on new strategies and ways of fighting that beat what's currently seen as "the best". If there's no development, and this boring style isn't eventually taken over by something else, MMA is dead. The evolution and changes is what keeps the sport alive

I agree with that, and I do think we'll see an evolution, but it needs to happen somewhat quickly for UFC to maintain its cultural spotlight. I'm not sure how many new fans are coming in with the current crop (not just the fighting style, but the lack of selling fights by the fighters). Hate to say it, but we need another Chael or Conor.
