I hadn't messed with my new drone in a minute because I had to pass the recreational pilot test and figure out how to get permission to fly since I live by an airport. It all only took me 30 minutes but seemed complicated. So far I have only used it to see how crowded the pool is, but it made for a nice shot.

Damn, here the UAPL is so much more complicated to get — hours of class work and a proctored in-person theory exam, followed by multiple sessions of hands-on training and an in-situ practical test with an examiner (both with GPS mode deactivated, so good luck if there’s any breeze that day)

The recreational test is the short safety test to fly any drone including small ones and only recreationally. The Part 107 test is much more involved and needed for commercial use. You need to spend hours on that one, but no in person stuff.
