Refusing to give up on one's own dreams and desires is not selfishness, but a result of self-respect and psychological maturity.
A healthy individual does not suspend their self-worth while existing within relationships. Suppressing one's own goals, desires, or identity in order to conform to the expectations of others, while seemingly maintaining the relationship in the short term, leads to loss of self, burnout, and internal conflict in the long term.
