The case for reading old books over new books: authors writing 100 or even 50 years ago speak to us from a drastically different world, and thus we have more to learn from them than someone who is deeply embedded in the same world that we inhabit.

Another point: just as writers of older works write to us from another world, our chronological distance to the work allows us to gain insights on it that the author and audience at the time could not gather

Great points, also selection bias, time weeds out books that don’t pass the, well, I want to say, test of time, whereas much harder to spot the signal from noise in current year.
