Is it possible to accurately gauge that an idea is modern without having a solid background in past ideas? Do the writers of the past have less to teach us than the ones who write today?

Can be talked many ways - your assumption is that past ideas is a limited pool, but it’s not, there’s contant discoveries happening thru texts which are still being deciphered 

Does an idea stemming from newly found knowledge a new idea / old idea?
