Twenty five exclusive inks, hidden behind numbered doors. That's the promise of Inkvent, the advent calendar of ink maker Diamine. The colours are created specifically for the calendar, each year a different set. Every day I let myself be inspired by the name and colour of the ink to write a poem. For projects like this, I prefer to use poetic forms that bring a certain structure: a syllable count. It starts with the haiku, where I mainly focus on the interpretation of a short poem consisting of three lines with 5, 7 and 5 syllables respectively. The other forms I used are forms I created myself, inspired by the haiku: the tritriplicata with 3, 6, 9, 6 and 3 syllables per line, and the highku with 4, 4, 4, 4, 3, 7 syllables per line. There is an odd quintet in the collection as well, a poem of 5 lines, in this interpretation consisting of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 2 syllables per line. And maybe an epigram. These poetic forms give a framework that is easy to work with when creating poems daily, inspired by a prompt provided by an external force. What also helps, is that I wanted to create small vignettes with them, by writing the poem on a piece of paper and making a sketch next to it as well, all of course with the ink of the day. Forms like the ones I used also yield generally short poems, which are easier to fit on a small piece of paper. I hope you enjoyed the project as much as I did. The poems are minted as NFTs using @minimint-app and you can collect them if you like. https://opensea.io/collection/inkvent-2025
