I watch these races for the speed, the attacks and the battles for victory. But none of that should come at the cost of a rider’s life, as happened in Portugal earlier this year. Riders should be able to race without having to worry about cars or motorbikes coming the wrong way. Hopefully, this was more than just a gesture at the start of one race. Something has to change. Because if pro cyclists aren’t safe while racing, competing and basically doing their jobs, how the hell are the rest of us supposed to feel safe on the road?
