Yes, and we have already hit peak oil production. There are as yet no viable alternatives (high density, high transportability) to hydrocarbons. The faster we burn the faster the "Seneca Cliff" approaches. This is a systemic problem but there seems no genuine effort to invest in real alternatives to hydrocarbons.
