Some people just can’t help themselves. Unfortunately you just have to make the decision then to shut out the noise or become their therapist. 

Usually the “I can fix them” approach doesn’t work because they don’t want to change.

recently started muting people also - main reason i didn't is because we're building our own farcaster client and i thought it was necessary to expose myself to all sides and voices on farcaster

but lately it's been really affecting my attitude when opening farcaster, i feel annoyance and rage with a lot of the replies i get + a lot of the BS takes i see and realized it's not worth it in the end to sacrifice my sanity 🥲

Easiest decision ever to mute some online. I don’t even have a 1 strike policy. Auto mute at the first whiff of a strike.

I was just reflecting on @joanwestenberg.eth’s recent experience of getting verbally assaulted on x/Threads. We don’t have that here (yet), but I am under no illusion that every social network that outgrows its town hall phase of 37 coffee friends ends up drowning in noise, just like the shrinking natural reserves; and that ambient noise eventually increases to contain the same share of antisocial unpleasantries as exist in the general population.

Tbh I cast more than I read (and I cast very little, which is to say I barely browse my feed), so I’m somewhat impervious to whatever drama happens here. My takes are also not controversial enough to attract grief. So my timeline still feels like a group chat of mostly people I recognize and enjoy hanging out with IRL and URL.

Still, I think we should also normalize muting so it’s less perceived as a nuclear option and more akin to the necessary trimming of a bonsai. I had this idea of the social boundary layer — by analogy with how air molecules of similar velocity organize themselves into layers around a wing. We naturally have affinities with some people more than others, and the tech should allow us to curate our cozy corner accordingly. 

I don’t know where Farcaster will be in three years, but for the last three it’s been enjoyable for me and I’d still rather be here than anywhere else

I've started to block a few people too. It's such a time waste and emotional drainer to let toxic people affect your mood.

I decided I'm not going to post most political stuff and will be muting self-proclaimed political accounts on here. politics are not why I'm here I am here to make stuff and have people praise me for making stuff

this is also a result of algos evolving over time to maximize engagement, it wasn't that bad in the facebook era, but now you have to actively avoid ragebait content
