It's obviously part of core marketing.
To be fair, I always criticize this strategy; it may give a boost in the short term, but it has so many toxic network effects.
Such as:
- creates false narratives
- incentives hype, false advertisements, and placeholder content
- corrupts the organic interactions graph
monetizes interactions that further corrupt the organic interactions graph
- creates total fucked-up retention patterns
- pollutes any kind of analytics
