⚖️ The Tension: Decentralisation vs. Sybil Protection Decentralisation means no central authority, open access, and user sovereignty. Sybil attacks (where one person pretends to be many) are a real threat in airdrops, governance, and reputation systems. Projects often turn to KYC or uniqueness credentials (like Worldcoin, BrightID, Proof of Humanity) to limit these attacks. 🧠 Why This Feels Wrong It introduces trust in a centralised verifier, contradicting core Web3 ideals. It risks data leaks, surveillance, and exclusion (especially for unbanked or pseudonymous users). It creates gatekeeping in a space meant to remove those very barriers. 🛠️ A Better Way? Some projects are experimenting with more Web3-native solutions: Reputation-based systems (like Airaa, Kaito, Karma3) Social graphs + on-chain activity as identity proxies ZK (zero-knowledge) tools to prove uniqueness or attributes without revealing identity 🤔 So… Are We Doing Better?
