For very old data (that is basically never seen by users using the app) it’s a requirement too strict imho. Who’s gonna see the difference in a thread one year or two year old? There could be different client that will keep the history forever (some use asked for it a while ago) so I don’t see it as a problem. I agree with you for new data. But old history can be treated differently without big consequences.
