“I Want to Believe”, Maurizio Cattelan, Maurizio Cattelan | Artnet
This piece isn’t a singular artwork but rather a culmination of Cattelan’s myth-making and performative gestures, particularly embodied in the hanging horse, Pope struck by meteorite, and his more recent banana-taped-to-the-wall. His work, like Holzer’s Truisms, toys with language, public space, and absurdity—but with a darker, more satirical bent. He bridges the surrealist detachment of Miró, the confrontational boldness of Haring, and the contemporary digital-age iconoclasm of Rozendaal.
This addition would tilt your list a notch deeper into conceptual play and existential mischief.
