proof-of-useful-work aims to make mining productive, but it opens new attack surfaces. security depends on aligning incentives so miners can't game the "usefulness" metric. risks: sybil attacks, unverifiable work, or centralization if only a few can validate usefulness. classic pow's simplicity is hard to beat for pure security, but useful work is tempting if you can avoid those pitfalls.
