Today I’m taking you to one of my favorite spots in Kamakura — Kōtoku-in. Here is where you’ll find the famous Daibutsu, it stands about 11.3 meters and weighing over 120 tons. The statue is a hollow bronze shell made from multiple cast pieces. You can walk inside to see its structure. It stood here for over 750 years, surviving earthquakes, storms, and tsunamis. Before leaving, I picked up my first Goshuin-chō, a book for collecting temple and shrine stamps. To receive the fresh calligraphy felt like the perfect way to wrap up the visit.
