According to the Russian chronicles, Varangian Rurik was invited to rule by the tribes of Chudi, Slovenes, Krivichi, Meri, and also, possibly, Vesi. Together with Rurik came his brothers Sineus and Truvor. Sineus settled in Beloozer (now Belozersk), Truvor — in Izborsk. After the death of his brothers in 864, Rurik became the sole ruler. The prince's internal policy was aimed at strengthening the external borders of the state and expanding them. During his reign, Smolensk, Murom and Rostov became part of Russia.🇷🇺
