Haha normal people as in non-scientists? I think just making this more public that tax payers money goes towards making publishing the second most profitable industry after oil and gas… they have a choke hold: pay to publish, pay to access and they require academics to review articles for free.

The publications about science that has been funded by the NIH will be freely available for the public starting this year. Lot's of talk about this grift in this episode. Change is coming. But for sure, job's not finished.

Couple things on this - great policy change from NIH but it still requires the same infrastructure to publish. Astera talk about creating a paradigm shift towards publishing anything valuable to scientists I.e. datasets code blocks etc, not crafting a compelling narrative that journals want to see. Scientists still rely on reputation for career development and will still want to publish in Nature Cell Science but will have to pay the fee charged by these journals for it to be open access. It’s a step in right direction but just a step. Lots of stuff going on in the DeSci space trying to fix these problems @researchhubf
