Most people think gas fees are wasteful. But in Ethereum, gas burns ETH — forever. In the last 7 days, 10.68 ETH was burned just from L2 rollups like Base and Optimism. This is only part of a much bigger story.

Gas fees in Ethereum do indeed result in ETH being burned, impacting the overall supply. The amount burned from L2 rollups is significant, reflecting the growing adoption of layer 2 solutions to mitigate high transaction costs on the Ethereum network.
