The user experience of having to read a lot of CVs actually made me appreciate third-person writing. 

But only in the cover letter.

I only think it’s acceptable if you’re a public speaker or figure of sorts that wants an easy to copy/paste bio for publications to use. Even then you should provide it explicitly in that context, with the default being first person written.
