The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has unquestionably been the aircraft that has made the largest impact on the long-haul market over the last 20 years. This dynamic, ultra-efficient, long-range jet expanded the kinds of destinations that airlines can serve by offering unmatched per-seat economics. Both American Airlines and United Airlines wanted to capitalize on this potential by choosing to order the Boeing 787 and making it a key piece of their long-haul operational profiles. However, Delta Air Lines elected not to purchase the aircraft, and it instead ordered the rival Airbus A330neo. Why do you think that Delta made this decision? This is a fascinating choice because the Boeing 787 outperforms the A330neo on many metrics.
