This is the unforgettable moment of farewell to Goodison Park. An emotional and magnificent goodbye from Evertonians to their stadium. I can’t fully describe the depth of my longing after witnessing such an event—how everything feels so perfectly meaningful and authentic, yet so unfamiliar to us, and how profoundly enviable it is. Meanwhile, yesterday, Crystal Palace claimed their first-ever championship. A team from the capital of Britain, not particularly renowned in world football but immensely significant to a small group of people! Seeing young and old shedding tears of joy, celebrating the most important moment in their club’s history, felt so foreign to me. Why would anyone spend their entire life supporting Crystal Palace? In London, of all places! Why doesn’t everything just revolve around Arsenal or Chelsea? How do West Ham, Tottenham, Fulham, and Palace have such devoted, passionate fanbases?

Football clubs are more than just names; they carry social and familial roots. I return to Goodison Park. The sound of the violin and the sorrow on people’s faces scream of identity and attachment to a place. I’m left in awe, wondering what we’ve never managed to build. What legacy do we have from a footballing place? The music grows warmer, and I gaze at a sea of blue, a crowd in a spring evening with teary eyes, like one big family honoring their identity and memories. These are people who aren’t just fans of a football team—they’re the owners of a priceless legacy.
