random sunday morning thinking about app stores and how the distribution dynamic always ends up being a power law for the apps at the top of the leaderboard

then associated this to social media apps/clients (ex. warpcast):
- 🚾  = app store
- accounts/users = apps
- a frequent complaint i see is smaller accounts don't feel very visible unless centralized authority provides a curation boost, as is the case in app stores too

would custom algorithms, being "anti-feed" even resolve this (3rd party app stores do exist, not sure how successful)? or is there opportunity for alt clients to differentiate and disrupt?

it's an interesting value prop, and like you i'd at least like to experience what that would mean for my feed quality

I came here for the promise of custom / transparent algorithms but haven’t really seen that manifest in a discernible way. I would like to at least try an app based on the central feature of “let me turn the dials of my own algo.”

how are you constructing the feed?

not really, most social media is already a custom tailored algorith (you cant choose, but like stated vs revealed prefernces) your choose your algo would be 'stated' preferences algo instead of revealed

right? do you think custom algorithms can even fix that?
