When I was a kid, I came close to drowning at a pool party. I accidently stepped over into the deep end, and I was unable to swim. I kept bobbing up and down and trying to wave and call for help, but I was swallowing water, and nobody saw me.

Fortunately, a bigger and older kid saw my distress and jumped in and swam over to me and pulled me out. I was so grateful and so scared. I can't swim to this day 30+ years later.
