Been using Memrise instead of Duolingo for language learning recently to get away from all the gamified bullshit and it's such a relaxing and fun way to learn languages again. They take pretty much the same approach to the lessons, which is what I was looking for. (I ignored Memrise for a while since they got rid of the community courses in the mobile app which was one of their main appeals. It allowed one to learn niche languages like Toki Pona and Lojban.)
