Attended a great talk yesterday at De Dependance hosted by Nuria Ribas Costa with Meredith Whittaker and Evelyn Austin (Bits of Freedom) about Signal, AI and Europe's "Big Tech Initiatives" (amongst other things).

They had an interesting perspective on how Europe can catch up on the US with regards to Big Tech, "the cloud"¹, hyperscalers, etc.

Their perspective was: should we even want this? Should we want to copy the US's Big Tech template and perhaps end up like them?

This ties in with a lot of Bert Hubert's recent articles about Europe needing to become more independent from the US wrt technology.
