To tip or not to tip in Southeast Asia... After 6 months of living in /chiangmai and /bangkok I learned this week from a Thai and a Taiwanese friend that tipping is not a social norm in Southeast or East Asia. 1 of the friends strongly prefers travelers do not tip as to not change the cultural norm. It's interesting to think about both sides of whether to tip or not.

If I'm somewhere that I am tipping it seems like a good strategy to tip more on Mondays if going to the same place throughout the week. That way they'll remember me positively.

Instead of tipping, you can consider giving a small gift (assuming you're a regular customer to a place and know the staff personally). This can be something simple (and useful) like a small snack or bottle of drink, and it would show much more thoughtfulness than giving a monetary tip imo.
