Expectations vs. Reality. Taking a page from The Producers, where they realize they can make more money with a flop than a hit, I get the feeling this franchise is meant to follow a similar trajectory, so it's failure can be deemed a write off. This is also the kind of unrealistic proposition companies make when they want to find an excuse to fire teams of people. The C-suite needs fresh bodies to sacrifice to boost the stock price, and this kind of move has sadly become a go-to tactic.
