THE CHOICE IS YOURS
if you could choose between these 2 platforms, which would you choose?
the first platform makes you compete with all other users for attention
it cares about how much attention you can grab β not the value you create
it penalized you for any day you don't spend on the platform penalized
it produces a lot of noise and little signal
it is swarmed by bots and engagement farmers, that further degrade your experience
it encouraged everyone to build in a silo, and compete with others for the same users
it is based on the notion that whoever takes the most for themselves βwinsβ
now how about the second platform?
The second platform is driven by value creation, and the more you contribute the more you're rewarded
it is based on the notion that signal is key, and those who surface undervalued content are rewarded for it
it optimizes for user experience β it's not about keeping you on the platform to maximize attention, it's about maximizing your benefit from the platform
it enshrines a simple proposition:
the better the platform is at delivering the content you want β when and how you want it β the more valuable it becomes to you, and the more invested you'll be in its success (and in the success of those who contribute to it)
user empowerment is the goal, so the platform has no interest in locking you in or keeping you tied to a particular client or feed
and since the platform wants you to contribute your best, it actually cares about your well-being
if you contribute better with minimal social media engagement, that benefits the platform β and you're still rewarded for the contribution (and not for being an βactive userβ)
it creates an environment where engagement farming is counterproductive; no one cares for the noise and there is no reward for it β which means minimal bots or farming
it encourages collaborative building; everyone has a vested interest in each other's success β the more value your app provides the more you're rewarded
every puzzle piece adds more value, so building in public and letting anyone integrate or build on top of your work benefits both you and others
so which platform would you prefer?
the one that farms your engagement, and keeps you in an endless competition with others, or the one that empowers you and values your contribution?
the only question then is how do we get this platform?
you have the power to shape what platform you're on
will your miniapp be just another attention game feeding the algo β or a cornerstone of a platform that truly reinvents the 21st-century social network?
