yes but the top 1% in the US hold about 30% of all wealth, while in India it's about 40% (and growing). So doesn't quite explain the optimism in India.
I'd say it has more to do with economic growth. India is rising, with 6.5% growth (so economy doubles in 10 years) while the US is stagnant, at 2% growth (doubles in 35 years).
when the economy is stagnant people are more pessimistic about the future
problem is that India is still a developing country, and it's easier to have faster growth when it's from a lower level. what we need to figure out is how to have faster growth as a "developed" country. otherwise we're all gonna end up fighting over smaller and smaller scraps
