We can now finally settle the 200-year “debate” between capitalism and socialism — should the common interest be subordinate to self-interest, or the other way around?
The answer is that both sides were wrong.
Either approach leads to a mode of failure: concentration of wealth (under capitalism), or concentration of power (under socialism).
Neither path — nor a “mixed” approach — can effectively deal with 21st century challenges
To deal with 21st century challenges (automation, AI, digital tech, etc.) we need an approach that aligns self-interest with the common interest — an economic paradigm where what benefits the individual would inherently benefit society, and vice versa.
The good news is that we now have the tools to make this happen!
