Big AI reg news from UK. NHS has just issued a Priority Notification telling to halt any ambient-voice/AI-scribe tools that lack MHRA Class I (NHS equivalent of FDA med device) registration and a full safety. More importantly for physicians, liability lands on the deploying organisation or individual physicians. NHS and FDA have significant similarity in regulations so means that AI will likely be treated as a med device for FDA approval and clearance purposes.

Medical facts⚕️ 1. Back in the eighteenth century, many diseases were treated with bloodletting. It was believed that if a small amount of infected blood was allowed to flow out, the patient would immediately feel much better. Moreover, absolutely everything was treated with this method, starting with a simple headache and ending, for example, with poisoning. 2. In Babylon, doctors who performed incorrect treatment were punished very severely. Their hands were cut off. Because of this, there were constantly not enough specialists and people treated each other themselves. A sick person could simply come to the square, stand on it, and the citizens passing by were interested in his problem. And if one of them was sick with something like that, he gave advice on how to heal.

A couple of useful studies illustrating diabetics should be able to tolerate hypergravity from spaceflight. Will become more and more relevant as we near commercial space flight becoming ubiquitous. https://asma.kglmeridian.com/view/journals/amhp/93/9/article-p688.xml https://asma.kglmeridian.com/view/journals/amhp/96/2/article-p101.xml

Second Case Successfully Observed! Quick and smooth! Today’s case reinforced a key clinical point: Indications for Caesarean Section (CS) can be classified in two main ways: 1. Based on Clinical Focus: • Maternal Indications: e.g. cephalopelvic disproportion, placenta previa, obstructed labor • Fetal Indications: e.g. fetal distress, cord prolapse, abnormal presentation 2. Based on Severity: • Absolute Indications: CS is the only safe delivery method • Relative Indications: CS is preferred but vaginal delivery may still be possible under certain conditions Understanding these distinctions is crucial for timely and effective decision-making in obstetrics.

What is the cancer risk category assigned to tanning beds by the International Agency for Research on Cancer at the United Nations? The International Agency for Research on Cancer at the United Nations, after analyzing the research of various scientists over a long period of time, decided to classify tanning beds as the highest risk category for cancer. In addition to tanning beds, this category contains, for example, arsenic and mustard gas. A group of people under the age of 30 stands out in particular — by visiting a tanning salon, they increase the risk of acquiring melanoma by almost two times.

HPV and Your Heart? A Surprising Link we all know HPV as the virus behind some cancers but what if it’s hurting your heart too? A new analysis of 250,000 patients found that people with HPV have a 40% higher risk of heart disease, and double the risk of coronary artery disease. Even after factoring in age, lifestyle, and meds, the risk stayed high. Researchers think chronic inflammation from the virus may be the culprit. Some are even asking: could the HPV vaccine help protect the heart, not just prevent cancer? It’s early, but this could reshape how we think about infections and heart health. https://www.acc.org/About-ACC/Press-Releases/2025/03/25/10/19/Growing-Body-of-Evidence-Links-HPV-with-Heart-Disease?hl=en-US

Why does a person need an appendix?⚕️ In the last century, in some countries, all children had their appendix forcibly removed in order to avoid appendicitis in the future. It was only recently discovered that the appendix is not a vestige at all. It plays an important role in the human immune system, being a kind of shelter for microorganisms. When the natural flora in the intestine is destroyed due to diseases, it is from the appendix that "reinforcement" comes. On the other hand, today's medicine allows you to restore the intestinal flora with the help of medications, so this function of the appendix becomes insignificant.

The theme “Life is good” shines the brightest when we find gratitude in everyday moments. A beautiful flower, the warmth of the sun, and cherished time with loved ones all add value to our lives. There may be challenges along the way, but each one offers a chance to learn and grow. In the end, life can be truly beautiful—it all depends on how we choose to see it.

Where did the word "humor" come from?😁 The word "humor" comes from ancient Greece, but there it was used in a medical sense. Ancient doctors believed that a person's condition consisted of the ratio of fluids in his body — blood, lymph, yellow and black bile. Each such liquid was called "humor". If all four humors were in perfect balance, a person could be considered healthy and happy.

Why does this matter? Current RA treatments rely on immune suppressants, which often have serious side effects. This breakthrough could pave the way for targeted therapies with fewer risks, offering hope to millions living with RA. Could this be the future of precision medicine for autoimmune diseases

What oversight helped Louis Pasteur discover the modern method of vaccination? One day, Louis Pasteur, who was conducting experiments on the infection of birds with chicken cholera, decided to go on vacation and left his assistant in the laboratory. He forgot to vaccinate the chickens and went on vacation himself. When the assistant returned, he infected the chickens, which weakened at first, but then unexpectedly recovered. Thanks to this oversight, Pasteur realized that weakened bacteria are the key to getting rid of the disease, as they give immunity from it, and became the founder of modern vaccination. Subsequently, he also created vaccinations against anthrax and rabies.

Google’s AMIE showed promising results using Gemini powered conversational AI as tool to augment long term disease management. Interesting was that they focused on precision and guidelines but the follow-ups were way too close together. Precision falters as people age and their bodies and environments change. https://research.google/blog/from-diagnosis-to-treatment-advancing-amie-for-longitudinal-disease-management/

Which drug is the most harmful in terms of the total harm to yourself and others? One of the oldest and most reputable medical journals, The Lancet, called alcohol is the most harmful drug. According to the criterion of harm to the alcohol user, alcohol is second only to heroin, crack and methamphetamine, while overtaking cocaine, tobacco, marijuana, ecstasy, LSD and many other substances. If we take into account the harm to others, as well as the total harm index, alcohol is far ahead of all other drugs.

What kind of insects can be used for cuts instead of surgical sutures?🐜 The mandibles of Dorylus ants living in Africa are so powerful that the indigenous population uses them for surgical purposes in case of cuts. The trapped and is applied to the skin along the wound, and, thanks to its protective reflex, it plunges its mandibles into the skin, thus tightening the cut. After this operation, you need to turn the ant's body away from its head.

Which juice is not recommended to drink with medication?🍊 Grapefruit juice is not recommended to drink with medication.
