Farcaster hosts countless projects but a worrying number of them are outright scams.
Recent cases show the problem is already severe.
If we hide behind the idea that this is a “free platform” and leave all responsibility to individual investors, we are simply giving scammers a free pass to turn this space into a lawless zone.
Even if miniapps are run by their own teams, they are still operating under the Farcaster name. At the very least, there must be a proper review and filtering process before launch.
A recent example is the Alfafrens project, which executed a blatant rug pull.
On the surface, they claimed to provide continuous rewards, but in reality, most participants had to pay more and more just to obtain $AF tokens.
For over a year, the team strung people along with false hopes of listing, all while gaslighting and deceiving them to drain their funds.
And yet, Alfafrens is still running dozens of projects.
A team with neither the ability nor the capital is launching miniapps recklessly, and I am certain that 99% of them will eventually stall and vanish with users’ money.
Farcaster must not be allowed to devolve into a breeding ground for scams and rug pulls.
We are not asking for heavy-handed regulation or excessive intervention.
We ask for one simple thing at least a minimum level of review and due diligence before allowing projects to launch.
