Wuthering Heights Tale of a little love and a lot of weird revenge on the moors of northern England. I like a lot of old books. I don’t like this one. It felt intricate without intrigue and dark without thrill. I couldn’t get invested in anyone. I’m probably overreaching here, but I’m going to speculate that a big part of why this book didn’t click for me is that it’s an essentially feminine vision of the masculine use of power. There’s no heroic exertion to achieve an outsized result against nature or a true outsider. The use of power in the book is limited to petty flourishes across a vertically compressed, intensely inward facing social scene where hierarchy is considered artificial and trivial. It felt like a soap opera sponsored by a company that sells sad dirty puddle water. Not recommended. The Kate Bush song is a banger though! 🎼🎵🎶

whenever i read "wuthering heights" immediately my brain thinks "the one with the rabbits?" brain too small for multiple books whose titles are a single dactyl-foot "w" word followed by single-syllable vertical-spatial word i guess

Heathcliff would totally fit as a character name in Watership Down
